Many years ago (2005), when I had first graduated from college & was beginning the daunting task of job hunting (for a teaching position), I came across a small scrapbooking store near my house named Artsy Tartsy. Being an avid scrapbooker, I was so excited, and on a (rejection letter induced) whim, asked if they were hiring. They were!
And thus began my long journey with Artsy Tarsty. I worked there for 2 years, came back for an additional summer, and filled in on rare occasions in between. But the highlight of my time there was after my local store had closed & the original (much further away) store was all that remained. The owner decided that in addition to supplies, she would also sell finished products & invited me to sell my cards & other creations there! I was delighted & incredibly optimistic about this new business venture. In fact, it's what finally pushed me into starting 'Little Paper Creations'! I packed up a bunch of cards, calendar, & magnets and brought them down to the store.
Then I sat back & eagerly awaited the money that was sure to come rolling in.
Except it didn't.
For almost 2 years it didn't. In that time I got one check for one set of magnets. That's it. It was depressing.
Finally I decided I wanted my stuff back. I tried to contact the owner, but I could not get ahold of her! The store had dissappeared! I panicked! My hard work was gone! My money was gone! My product was gone! Then one day in mid 2010, I came home to a large box sitting on my front step. Miracle of miracles, it was all my cards, calendars & magnets! I was so excited! When I went thought the product, I realized my style has changed in the last few years. For the better, of course. I've decided to re-vamp some of the cards & post them to Etsy. Some of the calendars are up there already & the magnets will be up shortly. Keep your eyes open for new (old?) stuff from Little Paper Creations!
Life got busy, as it usually does, and I let this site go by the wayside. But i'm back now, and i've got a lot of creativity to share! For starters, I got my very first special order from a complete stranger (not that she was strange, in fact she was very nice!). So anyway, a very nice woman saw my Forest Through the Trees cards & made a special request for 70 of them for her wedding thank you cards.
I nearly jumped out of my seat when I read the message! I immediately replid yes! But then started to panic - I don't have that paper anymore! And i'm going out of town a couple days before the very nice woman wanted the cards! I quickly found an online store that carried the paper & prayed they would ship quickly - which they did! In record time! I immediately got to work & whipped out most of the cards before my trip ( a 3-day weekend trip with my hubby for MEA break - a MN schools thing). When I returned, I only had to put the finishing touches on the cards, take some photos, pack & ship! So without further ado, the finished cards:
I had a lot of fun making these cards, knowing they were going to be a part of someone's wedding image! I'm hoping more people will put their trust in my creative abilities so I can get more special orders like this in the future.
I have more posts coming! I've had a creative resurgence!
