Mmm... Donuts...

Anyone drooling yet?

I inherited my love of donuts from my mom, so when I saw this paper, I had to get it! I got it originally for my mom's birthday - I wrapped her gift in it and made her a card. Since I had some paper left over, I decided to share the joy of donuts with others!

These cards were fast and simple to put together. I cut the paper, edged it with some ink, stamped and embossed a greeting, and adhered everything to a card base.

I love that these cards can be used for any occasion. Because really, donuts are always the answer, aren't they?

Want some donuts (cards) for yourself? Get them in my Etsy shop!

Happy snacking, I mean, crafting!

Storage Solution: Recipes

Like any good crafter, I jumped on PInterest early. I loved having craft ideas at my fingertips. Then I started finding non crafty things. Like recipes. And pretty soon I had a bunch of recipes stored up to try out, but what good were they on my computer? I don' have a computer in the kitchen, so I had to print them. But what to do with a bunch of printed recipes? Put them in a binder!
Here's my recipe binder:
Picture
I actually have 2 binders now. One for sweets and one fore everything else. I have a lot of sweets recipes...

Moving on...

I sorted my recipes into different categories, then used some tabbed page protectors and my label maker to label the categories.
Picture
I wanted to decorate the tabbed page protectors, but I didn't have a lot of time or money, so I dug into my stash and came up with a whole set of old K.I. Memories paper. I used one color on each page, cut out randomly-sized rectangles and adhered them onto some black cardstock. I love that I was able to use so much of the paper that I had been hoarding for so long.

Once the title pages were done, I started sliding in my recipes. I try to take a photo of each recipe when I make it so I can see what the dish looks like when I'm flipping through.
Picture
Sometimes, I make notes on my pages so I can keep track of what has worked or what to try. Here is my Thanksgiving turkey recipe with notes on how big the turkey was each year and how long it took to make. That way I can plan the timeline each Thanksgiving.
Picture
When I get a new recipe, I put it in the front of the binder till I actually make the recipe, then if I like it, it gets a page protector. If not - trash! There is no special order to the recipes within the categories - none of them are big enough that I cannot find what I need.

How do you store your recipes?

Happy Crafting (and cooking!)

Days 7-15... a little behind...

So... I got behind in posting my creations for 30 Days of Creativity, but I kept up pretty well. Here's a quick list of what I made:

On Day 7, I made sale signs for my garage sale!
Picture
Picture
Day 8 was an apron to hold all the money I planned to rake in during my garage sale.

Picture
Days 9 and 10 were devoted to organizing and displaying all my junk at the garage sale (I was a bit consumed with the sale, if you can't tell already!)

Picture
Day 12 (I missed 11 because I was so busy with the end of the garage sale) was a culinary creation. Baked tomatoes with parmigiana cheese and basil. So tasty!

Picture
Day 13 was an online creation. I made a google calendar for household reminders. Like when to change the furnace filter and when to trim certain bushes outside.

Day 14 was an accidental creation, but I was busy, so I counted it. I burned myself making breakfast. It puffed up into quite a little bubble during the day. Now on day 22, it's reduced to a bright red puckered scar look. I hope it'll go away soon.

Picture
On Day 15, I created many, many meal components to be ready whenever I need them. Pork chops, sliced bell peppers, cucumbers, broccoli, beans, pea-pods, zucchini, spinach, and leafy lettuce. And a new way to store asparagus!

Picture
That's enough catch-up for tonight. I will update on days 16 and on as soon as I can. There are a few days I missed, but I'm having fun finding a creative outlet every day!
Thanks for stopping by!

Day 3 - Lovely Lunch

Today's bit of creativity comes in food form. I got an idea to make a BLT with an egg in it! Instead of just throwing it together, I decided to be more intentional and beautiful with it.

I cut everything into a perfect circle with a cookie cutter and then cooked the egg in it!
Picture
Then assembly, a few quick photos of my own Egg-McMuffin, then Nom Nom Nom!
Picture
I do wish I had cut the lettuce into a circle as well - I think that would have looked just about perfect, but this was pretty damn tasty!

Quest for Kisses (Hershey's, that is)!

Just before Christmas this year, I asked a simple question: How many kinds of Hershey's Kisses are there? At least I though it was a simple question. I knew of the original flavors, almonds, caramel, some minty ones, and my favorite; Candy Cane. But I knew there had to be others. So I set out to find a comprehensive list. Easier said than done! The Hershey's website only lists current, USA flavors (and not all of them, at that!). Other lists are years old or filled with gaps. Then I found this site: Zoe's Hershey Kiss Collection. Zoe has made it her mission (at only 11 years old!) to taste and collect all the chocolate kisses that Hershey's comes out with. She keeps her site up to date with family and reader tips. So her list is the one I'm going to trust right now.

So how many varieties are there? 57. Yes, that's right. Fifty-seven varieties of Hershey's Kisses! I, like Zoe, want to taste and photograph each and every one of them (because if you truly love chocolate, you should document it, of course!).
Picture
I have made a page on this site devoted to my Quest for Kisses! You'll find it in the menu on the upper right.

If you have any suggestions, corrections, or tips on where (and when) to find certain kisses, please let me know! [email protected] or leave a comment!

Fill in the Blank Friday

8/6/2010

Friday, Friday, TGIFriday!

It's been a crazy week at work - lots to finish up in the next few weeks before school starts back! Not to mention all the things I still have to finish (and start!) around my house!

In the interest of simplicity, today is now Fill-in-the-blank-Friday!
*Inspired by Lin!*

1. Today for breakfast I ate toasted oatmeal bread with peanut butter and a glass of orange juice. It's pretty much what I have every day. Boring, but keeps me going.

2. My go to/never fail recipe(s) are mostly desserts! I can always make choc-oat chip cookies or schotcharoos (peanut butter rice crispie bars with chocolate on top) with my eyes shut and one arm tied behind my back. As far as regular meals go... probably spaghetti. Since I make huge batches and freeze it, the usual 'making' of spaghetti is boiling noodles and microwaving frozen sauce. EASY!

3. Something I eat that other people think is weird is canned tuna in my macaroni & cheese. Or maybe the way I make sloppy joes (ground beef and gumbo soup - no tomato-based joes for me!).

4. My worst cooking disaster ever was not really mine. I'm super careful and except for the occasional missing spice or overcooked chicken, my food always turns out. My husband got a huge, nasty burn on his finger when he tried to make stir fry and the hot oil spilled over the wok and landed on his fingers!

5. If I could only eat one flavor of ice cream the rest of my life it would be chocolate. Simple & delicious.

6. One food I hate and avoid at all costs is sea food. With the exception of canned tuna (and only one brand), I hate all sea food. This baffles most of my family, who loves the stuff. Bleh!

7. What is your favorite meal? Breakfast, lunch, or dinner? Dinner. I love preparing a meal for another person. It makes me feel really good to have people appreciate what I make.

Now it's your turn to play along! All you have to do is copy the blanks & answer them on your blog, then hop on over to The Little Things We Do & link up so others can read your answers.

I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend, and I hope to be back to regular creating and blogging soon!

Happy Creating (in the craft room or in the kitchen!)
